Before Starting
_ ARNING:Before startingthe
engine,read, understand, and follow
all instructionsand warnings on the
machine and inthis manual.
1. Thesparkplugwirewasdisconnectedfor safety.
Attachsparkplugwireto sparkplugbeforestarting.
IMPORTANT:Forcompleteanddetailedengine
starting,stoppingand storinginstructions,it is recom-
mendedthatyou readthe enginemanualalsoincluded
withthisunit.
Fuel And Oil Mixture
_ ARNING:Useextremecare when
handlinggasoline. Gasoline is
extremely flammable and the vapors
are explosive. Neverfuel machine
indoorsor while the engine is hot or
running.Extinguish cigarettes, cigars,
pipesand other sources of ignition.
IMPORTANT:Thisunitrunson a mixtureof gasoline
andoil. Do NOToperatethe snowthrowerwithout
first readingthe enginesoperator'smanualfordetailed
instructionsregardingproperfuelandengineoil.
Do NOToperatethe snowthrowerwithoutthe fuelcap
securelyin placeonthe fuel tank.
Positioning the Discharge
Chute
1. Loosenthe wing f
knobfoundon
the leftside of the
dischargechute
andpivotthe upper
chuteupwardor
downwardto the
desiredpitch.
Retightenthe
starknobbefore
operatingthe snow
thrower.

2. Rotatethe dischargechuteto the leftor rightusing
the chutehandle.SeeFigure5.
To Start Engine
1. Insertignitionkeyintoslot.
2. Nowfollowthe instructionsbelowas it pertainsto
yourunit.SeeFigure5for locationof controls.
Electric Starter(if equipped)
_ ARNING:Theelectricstartermust
be used witha properly grounded
three-prong receptacle at all times to
avoid the possibilityof electric shock.
Follow all instructionscarefullypriorto
operating the electric starter.
1. Theelectricstarteris equippedwitha groundedthree-
wirepowercordandplug,and is designedto operate
on 120voltAC householdcurrent.
2. Determinethatyour housewiringis a three-wire
groundedsystem.Aska licensedelectricianif you are
not certain.
3. If your homewiringsystem is not a three-wire
grounded system, do not usethiselectricstarter
underany conditions.
4. If your homeelectricalsystemis grounded, but
a three-holereceptacleis not available,oneshould
beinstalledby a licensedelectricianbeforeusingthe
electricstarter.
5. If youhavea grounded three-prong receptacle,
proceedas follows.
6. MoveChokeControlto the "Full"position.
7. PushPrimerthree (3)times,makingsureto cover
ventholewhen pushing.
8. Connectpowercord to switchboxondash panel.
Plugthe otherendof powercord intoa three-prong
120-volt,grounded,AC receptacle.
9. Pushstarterbuttonto crankengine.
10.Whenenginestarts,releasestarterbutton,andmove
chokegraduallyto 1/2Chokeuntil theengineruns
smoothly. NextmoveChoketo OFRIf enginefalters,
movechokeimmediatelyto FULLandthen gradually
to 1/2 thento OFF.
11.Disconnectthe powercord.Always unplug from the
outlet first, and then from the snow thrower.
Recoil Starter
1. Movechokeleverto FULLchokeposition(cold engine
start).
2. If engineis warm,placechokein OFFpositioninstead
of FULL.
3. PushPrimerthree (3)times,makingsureto cover
ventholewhen pushing.
4. If engineis warm,pushprimerbuttononlyonce.
NOTE:Alwayscoverventholein primerbuttonwhen
pushing.Additionalprimingmaybe necessaryfor first
start if temperatureis below15degreesFahrenheit.
5. Graspstarterhandleandpullropeout slowly,until it
pullsslightlyharder.Let roperewindslowly.
6. Pullstarterhandlerapidly.Do notallowhandleto snap
back.Allowit to rewindslowlywhilekeepinga firm
holdonthe starterhandle.
