The controlhandlehas threepositions.See Figure4-2.
• FORWARD:MovecontrolhandleFORWARDor
DOWNto movewedgeto splitwood.
NOTE:Controlhandlewill returnto neutralpositionas
soon as handleisreleased.(ForwardPosition only)
NEUTRAL:Releasethe controlhandleor movethe
leverto neutralpositionto stopthe wedgemovement.
REVERSE:MovecontrolhandleBACKor UPto return
the wedgetowardthe cylinder.The controlhandle
staysinthe return(Reverse)positionand returnsto
neutralautomaticallywhen fullyretracted.
NOTE: Reversepositionmayalso beoperatedbackto
neutralpositionmanually,if necessary.
Stopping Engine
1. Movethrottlecontrol(if equipped)to STOPor OFF
position.
2. Turnoffthe engineswitch,if soequipped.
3. Disconnectsparkplugwireand groundagainstthe
engineto preventunintendedstarting.

Gas and Oil Fill=Up
1. Servicethe enginewith gasolineandoilas instructed
in the enginemanualpackedwithyourlog splitter.
Readinstructionscarefully.
WARNING:Useextremecare whenhan-
dling gasoline.Gasoline is extremely
flammable and the vapors are explosive.
Neverfuel machine indoorsor while the
engine is hot or running.
IMPORTANT:Yourlogsplittermaybeshippedwithmotor
oil in theengine.YouMUSTcheckthe oil levelbefore
operating.Becarefulnot tooverfill.

Starting Engine
1. Attachsparkplugwireto sparkplug. Makecertain
the metalcap onthe endof the sparkplugwire is
fastenedsecurelyovermetaltip of the sparkplug.
2. Turnfuel valve(or engineswitch),if equipped,to the
ON position.
3. Movechokelever,if equipped,to CHOKEposition.
4. If theengineis equippedwitha primer,follow
instructionsin the enginemanualto prime it.
5. Turnthe throttlecontrol(if equipped)to the FAST
position.
6. Graspstarterhandleandpullropeout slowlyuntil
enginereachesstartof compressioncycle(ropewill
pullslightlyharderat thispoint).
7. Pullropewitha rapid,full arm stroke.Keepfirmgrip
on starterhandle.Let roperewindslowly.Repeat
untilenginecranks.
8. Afterenginestarts,movechokelever(if equipped)
to OFFposition.Placethrottleleverto the speed
desired.
9. In coldweather,runwedgeupor downbeam6 to 8
timesto circulatethe hydraulicfluid.
